Housed
inside the eclectic Cummins Station building, what you'll will
find inside is indeed a treasure trove as they redefine what a
fitnesss center is about. "We are guided by the simple philosphy
that your body should not only look good, it should be good for
something."
Cummins Station Fitness Center are big fans and supporters of
the sport of boxing. They have some great instructors, amateurs
and professionals who train there.
Letter from Ernie Rodriguez owner of Cummins Station Fitness Center
"We have always believed that the aerobic, anaerobic, and
skill development benefits of boxing are the perfect complement
to any fitness program. In addition it is one workout that is
sure to be a remedy for the greatest obstacle most face when trying
to maintain a consistent program.....boredom.
In a recent article in the Wall Street Journal much was made of
the latest fad in fitness. It is the boot camp style of training.
These are usually taught in a military style manner, but what
really sets them apart is the intensity of the workout as the
participants are put through grueling but very basic types of
exercises. While we agree with the intensity of the work and on
the emphasis on basics the one deterrent of most of these "extreme"
programs is that they seem to have a short shelf life. They are
extremely reliant on having an instructor and it is impossible
to maintain the intensity required for longer than a few weeks.
In contrast boxing,
which by the way may be the most "extreme" sport, is
a discipline which builds upon conditioning and intensity. As
you feel better and more confident you are developing a real skill
and it is an endeavor which you may do with an instructor or by
yourself just as easily. You will always learn something new and
face new ways of challenging yourself. By the way, this can all
be done without ever being hit.
If you want
to take your fitness to a higher level you can stay away from
fads and get into something that is proven and has been around
for hundreds of years. I guarantee you will like the results.
Yours in health,
Ernie
