I recently purchased Ultimate Spiderman for the Nintendo
Gamecube.
(It's also available for the Playstation 2 and XBOX.)
Saying it was worth the 50 bucks would be a major understatement.
Yeah - it's that good.
Sadly, my opinion on this particular game may be a bit biased,
since Spider-Man is my favorite entity of fiction. But who cares?
You'll think the game is great no matter who you are!
One thing in particular Activision (the team who creates the Tony
Hawk games) did well this time around was give the player the
ability to kick major butt as Venom. As the story progresses,
you switch back and forth between controlling him and Spider-
Man.
Eddie Brock (a.k.a. Venom) was a really scary dude in the comics;
and he's just as mean
in Ultimate Spider-Man. The way he leaps is similar in scale and
power to the way The Hulk does in his movie. It's very satisfying
to leap over a few buildings, pick up a car, and hurl it into
the sky destroying everything in its path including the low-flying
choppers that are hell bent on killing you.
The core of the game, of course, is swinging around town as "Your
Friendly
Neighborhood Spider-Man." TreyArch has tweaked their own
swing system(from Spider-Man 2) just a bit.
Don't get the wrong idea. They didn't go fixing' something that
wasn't broken. Every tweak they added was well-done and appropriate.
For example, now Spidey lets go of one web line and shoots out
another when the player simply lets go of the R trigger and represses
it.
It's more intuitive this way.
Spider-Man 2 was a great game in many ways, but there were some
flaws.
The flaws are very difficult to find in this one.
So stop surfing the web and go buy the game. Like now.
Why are you still reading my stupid review? GO!!
On a scale of 10, I rate it a 9.5
